What are sound devices?
Sound devices are used in writings to signify the tone and the meaning. They are also used to emphasize the sound relationship among words. If you do not understand what that means here is an example:
While we were sitting on the couch, we could hear the popcorn go, "POP" in the microwave.
This example uses the onomatopoeia sound device. If I wanted to say the same thing without using a sound device I could have said, "While we were sitting on the couch, we could hear the popcorn popping." Now think about it, which sentence sounded more exciting and helped you imagine how the popcorn went? It's the first sentence, right? Well that's because it used a sound device. Just like figurative language, sound devices will enhance your writing and make it more enjoyable to read. alliteration (n.)- repetition of two or more stressed syllables whether it's the same constant, sound group, or vowel
assonance (n.)- reoccurrence of similar, stressed vowel sounds at the end with different consonants
